The work must be an original study performed by a student, a group of students or
an entire class from a recognized College or University. It must not have been presented
previously at any scientific conference, congress or symposia. It must be supervised
by an advisor (faculty member or a graduate student) who will provide some direction
and attest to the integrity of the results.
The project could focus on microbial characteristics, growth conditions, probiotic
mechanisms of action, safety issues, nutritional or phase 1 clinical trials. It
could be in the domain of functional foods, dietary supplements or pharmaceuticals.
Preferably studies will be done on microorganisms, products, controls and placebos
provided by Institut Rosell. Strains used as negative or positive controls or as
historical comparisons may be derived from other sources.
